Establishment Is Threatened

  From The Pastor

Dear Beachside Family and Friends,

Two political parties had a serious problem on their hands. A man had arisen that was winning the hearts of the people and threatened the establishment's hold on power. They had many secret meetings where they plotted the downfall of the man and all those who agreed with him. They knew they could not defeat him on ideas, because the ideas he presented actually worked. They chose another tactic: personal distraction.

They accused him of being from an immoral family. He wasn't a part of their club, so they considered him a failure as a leader. It did not matter that wherever he went thousands of people turned out to see him. The people believed his message and supported him in spite of the establishment's allegations. That made the two parties angry.

They claimed he had inappropriate relationships with women. They thought he made insensitive statements about the poor. He didn't say things the way they thought they should be said. He wasn't politically correct. They were especially irate when he said they were liars and called them the devil. As ther anger grew they became consumed with the desire to take him out.

They called him dangerous, too dangerous to lead. They accused him of plotting terror and the destruction of government buildings. They became even more enraged when all their lies about the outsider did not destroy his influence. Beside themselves, the two parties employed false witnesses to accuse him of illegal acts. In the face of these allegations, many followers abandoned him, even most of his organization's staff. Seemingly defeated by anger, hatred, and lies, he lost everything. His movement was stopped, and his ideas silenced. The establishment won, or so it seemed.

The two political parties I speak of were the Pharisees and the Sadducees. The outsider? His Name is Jesus. " He was despised and rejected— a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care." (Isaiah 53:3) While I am not equating Jesus with any candidate for office, I have this question. If the only Perfect Man who ever lived was not good enough for the establishment political parties, who can ever be? It has become clear to me that establishment leaders only care about their own power, not the future of our nation.

The Bible says "Why the big noise, nations? Why the mean plots, peoples? Earth-leaders push for position, Demagogues and delegates meet for summit talks, - Heaven-throned God breaks out laughing" (Psa 2:1-2,4)

I am convinced of these two things: Jesus can never be stopped, and neither can God's plans for our nation!

Something to think about!

Home Ownership Decline

WASHINGTON – Oct. 14, 2016 – For over a decade, the national homeownership rate has been declining. It peaked at 69.2 percent in 2004, but for the past 10 years, the rate continued to fall.

Today the homeownership rate is less than 63 percent, the lowest in half a century. Some industry analysts are predicting further declines too, saying the homeownership rate could drop below 60 percent.

In new Insight posted at Freddie Mac's website, however, the mortgage giant says such doom-and-gloom projections ignore potential macroeconomic influences that likely will have a significant impact on the homeownership rate's future.

For example, the future of housing finance has yet to be sorted out, Freddie Mac notes. The government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs: Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac) are in their eighth year of conservatorship, and that will change at some point.

"No one knows when a consensus on the complex issues surrounding housing finance will be reached in Congress, but whatever choices are made will surely influence the future path of homeownership," the report notes.

Also, millennials may still play catch up. One day soon they may finally decide to get married, raise families and buy homes – and when that happens, it could occur at a faster pace than it did with previous generations.

Sean Becketti, Freddie Mac's chief economist, says projections that homeownership rates will drop also fail to take into account that today's millennial 35-year-olds may not act exactly like today's baby boomer 55-year-olds.

Further, factors that slow home buying in non-white demographic groups may be overcome, according to Freddie Mac.

Becketti says other studies predicting a drop in the homeownership rate fail to take into account such "future macroeconomic disruptions, significant policy changes, or shifts in social attitudes in their calculations.

"In either case, we believe their projections may be overly pessimistic," Becketti says. "The income and education gaps that are responsible for some of the differences may be narrowed or eliminated as the U.S. becomes a 'majority minority' country. And as these types of potential homebuyers comprise a larger and larger share of the population, it will become increasingly expensive to overlook them. Profit-oriented financial institutions will be motivated to find better ways to serve them."

Foreclosure Crisis Is Over

IRVINE, Calif. – Oct. 13, 2016 – According to ATTOM Data Solutions, the foreclosure crisis is over.

ATTOM released its September and Q3 2016 U.S. Foreclosure Market Report, which includes default notices, scheduled auctions or bank repossessions. In September, foreclosures dropped 13 percent month-to-month and 24 percent year-to-year to hit their lowest level in over a decade – since December 2005.

"Foreclosure activity has been on a steady slide downward over the past six years, finally dropping back below pre-crisis levels in September," says Daren Blomquist, senior vice president at ATTOM. "While we've know that the national foreclosure problem has been dying a long, slow death for quite some time, the final nail in the coffin of the foreclosure crisis is the year-over-year decrease in the average foreclosure timeline nationwide that we saw in Q3 2016 – the first time that's happened since we began tracking foreclosure timelines in Q1 2007.

Average time to foreclose decreases annually for first time in report history

Properties foreclosed in Q3 2016 took an average of 625 days to complete foreclosure – 1,038 days in Florida – down from 631 days in the previous quarter and 630 days a year ago. It's the first decrease since ATTOM began tracking average foreclosure timelines in Q1 2007.

Still, Florida remains one of the top 5 for states for long foreclosure timelines ranking fourth behind No. 1 New Jersey (1,262 days), followed by Hawaii (1,241 days) and New York (1,070 days). At No. 5, it takes 942 days in Illinois (942 days).

"The decrease in the average foreclosure timeline indicates that banks have worked through the bulk of the legacy foreclosure backlog in most states – with a few lingering exceptions – and that most of the foreclosures being completed now are relatively recent defaults that are more efficiently progressing through the foreclosure pipeline," Blomquist says.

Florida foreclosure rates

While the Sunshine State remains in the top 5 nationally for foreclosure rates, it dropped from its historical ranking in one of the top two spots to fifth in ATTOM's latest survey. Nationwide, the top state foreclosure rates are: Delaware (one in every 680 housing units with a foreclosure filing), New Jersey (one in every 691), Nevada (one in every 897), Illinois (one in every 946) and Florida (one in every 950).

In a look at large metro areas with over 200,000 residents, two Florida cities make the top 5. Ranking fourth and fifth, respectively, are Tampa-St. Petersburg (one in every 710 homes) and Jacksonville (one in every 722). Atlantic City; Rockford, Ill.; and Columbia, S.C. had the highest metro foreclosure rates in September.

Other metro areas with high September foreclosure rates include Medford, Oregon (one in every 742 housing units); Lakeland-Winter Haven (one in every 755); Chicago (one in every 767); Philadelphia (one in every 771); and Bakersfield, California (one in every 778).

An interactive map with foreclosure statistics by Florida county is posted on ATTOM's website.

National foreclosures

September foreclosure starts drop to a more than 11-year low, and September bank repossessions decrease 32 percent year-to-year. Overall, investors and, specifically, institutional investors had an increase in activity:

  • Third-party investors bought 44 percent of all properties sold at foreclosure auction in the third quarter, with the remaining 56 percent transferring back to the foreclosing lender at the auction.
  • The 44 percent sold to third-party investors was the highest share going back as far as Q1 2000 – the earliest data is available – and well above the pre-recession peak of 30 percent in Q2 2005.
  • Of the properties sold to third-party investors at the foreclosure auction in Q3 2016, 38 percent were sold to institutional investors, defined as entities purchasing at least 10 properties in a calendar year. That was up from 32 percent in the previous quarter and 26 percent a year ago but still below the peak of 70 percent in Q2 2009.

Trump Visit

Panama City Beach officials are calling Donald Trump's rally at Aaron Bessant Park a roaring success, despite the short notice.

"We really didn't finalize most of the information until Monday and even into Tuesday on where and how the event logistics were going to happen," said Mario Gisbert, the City Manager.

Gisbert says the event came together with the help of multiple agencies.

"Pier Park offered up their parking lot," said Gisbert. "Our police department moved up and down the road to make sure we had things traveling smoothly. I'm sure we had connections with Bay County Traffic Control helping with the traffic lights. So it's a huge team effort."

The event happened with minimal issues.

"As far as I know, we had one arrest fairly early on in the event," said Gisbert. "The gates weren't even opened."

According to PCB Fire Rescue, there was approximately 8,500 to 9,000 people within the gate and several thousand more outside it.

Hurricane Matthew Relief

WASHINGTON – Oct. 12, 2016 – U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Julián Castro announced that HUD will speed federal disaster assistance to Florida, North Carolina and Georgia to support homeowners and low-income renters forced from their homes due to Hurricane Matthew. In addition, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac announced assistance for homeowners who may have mortgage problems as a result of the hurricane.

A disaster declaration allows HUD to offer foreclosure relief and other assistance to certain families living in this county, and President Obama issued a declaration for the following counties:

  • Florida: Brevard, Duval, Flagler, Indian River, Nassau, St. Johns, St. Lucie and Volusia
  • North Carolina: Beaufort, Bladen, Columbus, Cumberland, Edgecombe, Hoke, Lenoir, Nash, Pitt, and Robeson
  • Georgia: Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Glynn, Liberty, and McIntosh

"Today, our collective thoughts and prayers are with those who are now facing the painful process of recovering from this storm," said Castro. "As our sister agencies assess the damage and respond to the immediate needs of our citizens, HUD will offer any assistance possible and stands ready to support the longer term housing recovery efforts."

HUD efforts

  • Help states and local governments re-allocate existing federal resources toward disaster relief: HUD's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME programs give the states and communities flexibility to redirect millions of dollars in annual formula funding to address critical needs, including housing and services for disaster victims.

  • Grant immediate foreclosure relief: HUD granted a 90-day moratorium on foreclosures and forbearance on foreclosures of Federal Housing Administration (FHA)-insured home mortgages.

  • Make mortgage insurance available: HUD's Section 203(h) Program allows the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) to insure mortgages made by qualified lenders to victims of a major disaster who have lost their homes and are in the process of rebuilding or buying another home. Individuals are eligible for this program if their homes are located in an area designated by the president and if their homes were destroyed or damaged to an extent that reconstruction or replacement is necessary.

  • Make insurance available for both mortgages and home rehabilitation: HUD's Section 203(k) loan program enables owners who have lost homes to roll the cost of repairs into a single mortgage.

  • Offer Section 108 loan guarantee assistance: HUD will offer state and local governments federally guaranteed loans for housing rehabilitation, economic development and repair of public infrastructure.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac programs

Mortgage giants Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae are offering several mortgage options, including forbearance for up to 12 months or mortgage modifications.

Freddie Mac's disaster relief options are to borrowers whose homes are located in declared Major Disaster Areas where federal individual assistance programs are being made available to help affected households.

"We strongly encourage the many American families whose homes or businesses are being impacted by Hurricane Matthew to call their mortgage servicer once the Federal Emergency Management Agency's declaration is announced," says Yvette Gilmore, Freddie Mac's vice president of single-family servicer performance management. "Relief – including forbearance on mortgage payments for up to one year – may be available if their mortgage is owned or guaranteed by Freddie Mac."

Freddie Mac's mortgage relief options include:

  • Suspending foreclosures by providing forbearance for up to 12 months
  • Waiving assessments of penalties or late fees against borrowers with damaged homes from the hurricane
  • Not reporting forbearance or delinquencies prompted by the hurricane to the credit bureaus

Similarly, Fannie Mae is offering forbearance to any borrowers affected by the hurricane and delaying impacted foreclosures sales. Affected homeowners may temporarily suspend or reduce their mortgage payments for up to 90 days under Fannie Mae's guidelines. Lenders may also grant forbearance for up to six months thereafter and extend that by an additional six months, as needed.

FEMA information on Florida's impact from Hurricane Matthew is posted online.

Consequence

  From The Pastor

Dear Beachside Family and Friends,

Consequence is a word that is not often used these days. Webster defines consequence as "something that happens as a result of a particular action" .Some of us were told as children that there would be consequences for bad behavior. Others have grown to adulthood believing that there are no consequences at all for their actions. There are also those who understand that there are consequences attached to inappropriate behavior, but they do not care. We live in a culture where many do not believe in moral absolutes. Any morality of their own making is acceptable, no matter what the consequences may be to themselves and others.

Consequences in life are as inescapable as death and taxes. Paul wrote about this in Galatians 6:7 "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows." Our actions in life will always be followed by results, good or evil. Knowing this, we must make right choices in order to receive positive results. Every action in life brings about a consequence, intended or unintended.

Our nation has experienced an unprecedented. period cultural decline in recent years. The reason is simple: elections have consequences. Over the past eight years, relations between races have seriously deteriorated. There is a war in our streets between the police and those who hate them. More debt has been taken on by the current administration then all the previous administrations combined. Mandatory, government controlled health insurance has been enacted that is neither affordable nor caring. Terrorists arrive in our nation regularly, disguising themselves as refugees. These challenges and many more exist because elections have consequences.

Individuals of the same sex are entering into state sanctioned marriage. Christian businesses are closing rather than face the fines and penalties that are foisted upon them simply because their owners are following their consciences. A city government recently ordered pastors to turn over their sermons to be evaluated for "hate speech". Football coaches lose their jobs because they their pray publicly before games. Brothers and sisters, elections have consequences.

We are experiencing these problems in our nation today because many who identify as Christians have either refused to vote in past elections, or have chosen to vote for candidates who are openly resistant to the authority of God and His Word. A Christian is not one who is simply born in a Christian home or in a Christian nation. A Christian is one who has accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, and who does what Jesus commands us to do. The word Christian means "little Christ". By Bible definition, a Christian is one who acts like Jesus Christ. If Jesus were registered to vote, He would never vote for candidates who embrace abortion on demand and equate homosexual relationships with heterosexual marriage. He knows elections have consequences.

When we go to the polls, Jesus is with us. He lives in the heart of every true believer, and goes everywhere we go. When we take him to vote with us, will we vote the way He would? Will we set aside our desire for government to be our source and look to God? Will we vote for the candidates whose positions are closest to the morality of the Bible, regardless of their gender or political party? There is no perfect candidate. That could only be if Jesus was on the ballot. He will never stand for election, for He has already been declared King of Kings and Lord of Lords for all eternity. His Word is the ultimate and final authority. Will we submit to His leadership, or vote based on our feelings? The future of our nation hangs in the balance. Elections have consequences!

ALL LIVES MATTER

Dear Beachside Family and Friends,

For the past several months, there has been violence on the streets in many cities in America.

There are many who protest their grievances with the police and those that are in authority. There are others who are paid to protest and become propagators of looting and destruction. Rallying cries are heard daily through the media "Black lives Matter". "Blue Lives Matter", and even 'All Lives Matter".

I certainly believe that all lives matter, because God demonstrated His commitment to all lives when he sent Jesus to the cross. 2 Peter 3:9 says "The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent."

I am convinced all lives matter to God, and equally convinced that satan targets all lives for distraction. He is  an equal opportunity destroyer, whether his target is Black, White, Hispanic, or Asian.

Some have been quick to declare that all lives matter, but is that true across the board? There is certainly one group among us that is murdered in great numbers every day, but gets no coverage in the news media. This Holocaust is not mentioned often even among Christians. I am speaking about the murder of the unborn.

I must confess that I have had conflict over the issue of abortion and its place in politics. I have advised people not to be one issue voters when so much is at stake in every election. Sometimes a choice must be made when there is no candidate that opposes abortion. When these are the only options presented, we must still vote for the candidate that is closest to the biblical values that we hold dear. I am happy to say that this is not the case this year. There is a clear choice in the presidential election.

Hillary Clinton and her party support abortion on demand. Donald Trump, while once a supporter of abortion, saw the light several years ago and changed his position. He has promised to appoint to the Supreme Court justices who will follow the Constitution and therefore rule that indeed "all lives matter", including the lives of innocent children in the womb. There is an unambiguous choice between the two.

Every Christian has the right to vote for whomever they wish. I have been amazed over the course of the last several elections by the number of believers who have supported and voted for candidates who advocate abortion on demand. My personal opinion about the choices of others does not matter, but I do have respect for what the Lord has to say. Proverbs 24:11-12 declares "Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to die; save them as they stagger to their death. Don’t excuse yourself by saying, “Look, we didn’t know.” For God understands all hearts, and he sees you. He who guards your soul knows you knew. He will repay all people as their actions deserve.'

God does not excuse ignorance in the death of the innocent. I know I risk the Ira of some when I make this statement, but I am compelled to do so. To vote for a candidate who supports abortion on demand is to participate in the murder of innocent children. When a clear choice exists, we must obey the word of God, and vote for those who are opposed to the wanton murder of children as a form of birth control. All lives matter to God, even the lives of the unborn. He has a plan for them that should not be snuffed out by Satan and those who allow themselves to be used by him.

The upcoming election will be historic, with grave consequences for the Church and our Nation. I encourage you to stand with me in prayer that God will raise to office those who will submit to His direction and influence. Freedom of worship and speech are on the ballot. God grant that righteousness will prevail!

Insurer must pay legal fees.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Sept. 30, 2016 – The Florida Supreme Court on Thursday said a property insurer must pay the attorneys' fees of a homeowner who successfully challenged the company's contention that her home was not damaged by a sinkhole.

The court, in a 6-1 ruling in a Marion County case, sided with homeowner Kathy Johnson, who filed a claim in 2010 with Omega Insurance Co. because of extensive damage that included cracks in walls and separations between walls and ceilings.

Justices pointed to a need for policyholders to be able to recoup legal fees if they successfully fight insurance companies over claims.

"The need for fee and cost reimbursement in the realm of insurance litigation is deeply rooted in public policy. Namely, the Legislature recognized that it was essential to 'level the playing field' between the economically advantaged and sophisticated insurance companies and the individual citizen," said the majority opinion, written by Justice R. Fred Lewis and joined fully by Chief Justice Jorge Labarga and justices Barbara Pariente, Peggy Quince and James E.C. Perry.

"Most assuredly, the average policyholder has neither the finances nor the expertise to single-handedly take on an insurance carrier," the opinion continued. "Without the funds necessary to compete with an insurance carrier, often a concerned policyholder's only means to take protective action is to hire that expertise in the form of legal counsel. Counsel then have the ability and knowledge to hire an independent engineer or other expert to prepare a report that either confirms or denies the policyholder's view of the cause of damages. For this reason, the Legislature recognized that an insured is not made whole when an insurer simply grants the previously denied benefits without fees."

Justice Ricky Polston concurred with the outcome, though he did not sign on to the majority opinion. Justice Charles Canady dissented.

The legal dispute began after Omega Insurance hired a consulting firm that said the damage to Johnson's home was not caused by a sinkhole. Johnson retained a law firm, which in turn hired a consultant who concluded a sinkhole was responsible.

Johnson filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against Omega. After another consulting firm said the damage was caused by a sinkhole, Omega agreed to pay for repairs, which totaled $213,465, according to the Supreme Court ruling. Johnson then sought to require the insurer to pay her attorneys' fees.

A circuit judge ruled that the insurer should pay the legal fees, but the 5th District Court of Appeal disagreed. It said the insurer could only be forced to pay the fees if it initially denied the claim in "bad faith."

The Supreme Court's 27-page majority opinion overturned that ruling.

"We cannot, as the (appeals) court below held and Omega requests here, discourage insureds from seeking to correct the incorrect denials of valid claims and allow insurers to deny benefits to which insureds are entitled without ramifications," the opinion said. "Johnson proceeded with the only action that a non-expert claimant in conflict with a major insurance company could take: She retained counsel and thus obtained access to an independent expert."

In his dissent, Canady said he did not think the court had justification to take up the case. He argued the 5th District Court of Appeal decision did not conflict with rulings by other appellate courts. Such conflicts often serve as bases for the Supreme Court to hear cases.
