White House Stats

In honor of Presidents’ Day (February 20), here are some fun facts about the White House:

It features 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, and six floors.
Close to 575 gallons of paint are needed to cover its outside surface.
The White House was formerly known as the President’s Palace, the President’s House, and the Executive Mansion. President Theodore Roosevelt gave the White House its name in 1901.
President Jimmy Carter installed the first computer and laser printer. The Internet made its debut under President George H.W. Bush in 1992.
Living at the White House comes with a cost. At month’s end, the President receives a bill for the family’s food and incidental expenses (e.g., dry cleaning).
Irish-born architect James Hoban designed the White House. Hoban based it on Leinster House, a stone residence in Dublin.
