In honor of Presidents’ Day (February 20), here are some fun facts about the White House:
- It features 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, and six floors.
- Close to 575 gallons of paint are needed to cover its outside surface.
- The White House was formerly known as the President’s Palace, the President’s House, and the Executive Mansion. President Theodore Roosevelt gave the White House its name in 1901.
- President Jimmy Carter installed the first computer and laser printer. The Internet made its debut under President George H.W. Bush in 1992.
- Living at the White House comes with a cost. At month’s end, the President receives a bill for the family’s food and incidental expenses (e.g., dry cleaning).
- Irish-born architect James Hoban designed the White House. Hoban based it on Leinster House, a stone residence in Dublin.
As always, it is a pleasure to stay in touch. I hope you enjoyed this trivia.
Sincerely,
