Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol say 85-year-old Richard Jones died Thursday night after he drove his car off a dock.
Officials say Jones was driving through the parking lot of Marina Landing Condominiums, located West of Highway 98, when he traveled over a curb, past several sidewalks off the edge of a dock and into water.
Jones was transported to Bay Medical Scared Heart were he was pronounced dead.
Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a car accident at the Marina Landing Condos in Panama City Beach.
Multiple agencies were on scene after a car was found completely submerged in the water near the entrance of the condos. Officials say their preliminary investigation tells them a man was trying to park his car in one of the handicap spots at the entrance of the condos, when he suffered a medical emergency. They say this is what caused him to drive the car into the water.
They were able to confirm the man was killed in the accident. Officials say he was the only one in the car at the time. The victim's identity has not been released at this time.
