Family Counseling

After 35 years of marriage, a husband and wife came for counseling.  When asked what the problem was, the wife went into a tirade listing every problem they had ever had in the years they had been married.

On and on and on: neglect, lack of intimacy, emptiness, loneliness, feeling unloved and unlovable, an entire laundry list of unmet needs she had endured.

Finally, after allowing this for a sufficient length of time, the therapist got up, walked around the desk and after asking the wife to stand, he embraced and kissed her long and passionately as her husband watched - with a raised eyebrow. The woman shut up and quietly sat down in a daze.

The therapist turned to the husband and said, "This is what your wife needs at least 3 times a week. Can you do this?"

"Well, I can drop her off here on Mondays and Wednesdays, ...............But I fish on Fridays.

When the gas men run.

Two gas company servicemen, a senior training supervisor and a young trainee, were out checking meters in a suburban neighborhood. They parked their truck at the end of the alley and worked their way to the other end.

At the last house a woman looking out her kitchen window watched the two men as they checked her gas meter. Finishing the meter check, the senior supervisor challenged his younger coworker to a foot race down the alley back to the truck to prove that an older guy could outrun a younger one.

As they came running up to the truck, they realized the lady from that last house was huffing and puffing right behind them. They stopped and asked her what was wrong.

Gasping for breath, she replied, "When I see two gas men running as hard as you two were, I figured I'd better run too!"

Two Thousand Offspring

The teacher was describing the dolphin and its habits.

"And, children, "she said impressively, "a single dolphin will have two thousand offspring."

"Goodness!" gasped a little girl in the back row. "And how about married ones?"

Dear Beachside Family and Friends,

One of my favorite movies of all time was released by Walt Disney in 1969. Starring Dean Jones and Michele Lee, it is a classic family flick. Unlike the live-action remake of another classic animared "DISNEY" film to be released later this month, the Love Bug contains no gay storylines or character, and does not push an unbiblical cultural agenda. It tells the tale of a Volkswagen Beetle come to life, who helps a defeated and dejected race driver find victory both on the track and in love.

In one scene, Herbie, the Volkswagen, takes control of things and drives the male and female leads against their will to a drive in restaurant. When the feisty Bug parks next to a Hot Rod with a hippie at the wheel, Michele Lee begins to beat on the passenger window and tell the driver she is trapped and a prisoner. Without hesitation,  the sage hippie responds "We all prisoners chickee baby, we all locked in."

While expressed in common vernacular, the drivers statement is true. All human beings are prisoners, and are locked into prisons of their own making by the choices they make in life. It should not surprise us when people live lives contrary to God's Word and Will, they are prisoners of what they have chosen to believe. The cultural upheaval we see on college campuses and the streets of our nation is one example, the lies and distortions of the media and politicians are another. We have come to a place in our nation where feelings equal reality, and truth is the casualty. Jesus said in Matthew 6:23 "...if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!" People have imprisoned themselves in darkness, and do not see the light of the truth. Jesus told Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews "And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil." (John 3:19)

There is yet hope for those who walk in darkness and believe it is the light. Paul wrote in Galatians 3:22 "But the Scriptures declare that we are all prisoners of sin, so we receive God’s promise of freedom only by believing in Jesus Christ." Jesus is the light of the world, and brings release from deception and darkness to all who believe on Him, accept His Words as truth, and live by them. Jesus frees prisoners on every level. There are those who walk the corridors of penitentiaries, who because they have chosen Jesus, are truly free. There are also those who walk the streets openly, yet are the prisoners of darkness.

Paul, who for a time was a prisoner in Rome, understood this. He wrote  "For everyone here, including the whole palace guard, knows that I am in chains because of Christ. And because of my imprisonment, most of the believers here have gained confidence and boldly speak God’s message without fear." (Phil 1:13-14) Paul knew that even though he was bound physically, he was free in Jesus. Having this attitude, he inspired others to proclaim the truth. The Gospel cannot be hindered: the truth will always prevail.

Michele Lee's character was liberated from the Volkswagen and found peace and joy in life. No one has to live a life "locked in" to a darkness of their own choosing. Jesus is the key that unlocks the prison door of darkness in our lives. I'm so happy to say " We all free chickee  baby, we all been set free!"

possible 2

Dear Beachside Family and Friends,

There's an old adage that asks the question "How do you eat an elephant?"  Few of us have ever contemplated an elephant steak dinner, and fewer still have actually consumed a plate of pachyderm. Even if enamored by the flavor and texture of elephant meat, would it be possible to eat an entire elephant? The sensible answer is of course, no. Elephants are much too large and stomachs too small for any one person to eat an whole elephant. Since this is the case, what is the purpose of the question, and what is the answer?

The purpose of the question is not contemplating an elephant feast, but to evaluate ways to do what is impossible. The correct answer is "one bite at a time." Every single one of us will face impossible situations in life, circumstances that are larger than our ability to change them. Things that are impossible are certain to arise, and our response to them will determine the success or failure of our lives. No matter what difficulties we may face, the only way to deal effectively with them is to take one step at a time.

When considering an impossible situation, the disciples questioned Jesus. Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But not with God. Everything is possible with God.” (Mark 10:27) God asks us all to do the impossible. He never asks us to do  what is possible, for what is possible does not require his assistance. Since all things are possible with God, we must be willing to believe and act: to believe what He says in His W ord, and to act accordingly. Paul wrote "for we walk by faith, not by sight:" (2 Cor 5:7) Living by faith and doing the impossible is not accomplished in one giant leap: it is realized by simply walking step by step towards our goals and dreams.

Is there an elephant in the room of your life? Are you facing an impossible situation? If you are, then take heart. If it is impossible for you to do it, then it must be possible for God to do it. He will do it in and through you when you take one step at a time, walking by faith. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. How do you do the impossible? One step at a time. "...If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” (Mark 9:23)

Quality of life

Millennials are behind one of the industry’s up-and-coming trends: wellness-minded design. This trend is the result of growing demand for healthier living environments.

Wellness-minded spaces do more than promote energy efficiency – they also improve quality of life. Offices are a testing ground for many wellness features. For example, companies are offering open-desk environments, adaptive & multi-purpose furniture, and quiet rooms that feature natural light and greenery. As for a home, wellness features include cutting-edge systems that circulate probiotics in the air, disperse homeopathic scents, and purify drinking water.

It will be exciting to witness wellness-related innovations in the coming years. Ensuring homeowners are happy and healthy is a worthwhile objective.

Sincerely,

When Grace is needed

Little Mikey and his family were having Sunday dinner at his grandmother's house. Everyone was seated around the table as the food was being served. When Little Mikey received his plate, he started eating right away.

"Mikey! Please wait until we say our prayer," said his mother.

"I don't need to," the boy replied.

"Of course, you do," his mother insisted through gritted teeth. "We always say a prayer before eating at our house."

"That's at our house," Mikey explained. "But this is Grandma's house and she knows how to cook."

Which approach to truth is correct?

Dear Beachside Family and Friends,

One of the first casualties of any political discourse seems to be the truth. Every interest group claims to speak the truth. Some view truth as a flexible concept, malleable by the feelings of individuals. Others view truth as unchangeable, immutable, and absolute. Still others believe that truth is whatever they want it to be, unfettered by evidence to the contrary.

Which approach to truth is correct? Without delving into a lengthy philosophical discussion, where can we find the TRUTH about the truth? Is it even within the province of man to define truth? Society cannot endure which is not based upon THE truth, so knowing and understanding the source of truth is of extreme importance. Jesus said "and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:32) Freedom in our nation cannot endure without knowledge of the truth, and accepting its' value as the ultimate arbiter of political disputes.

Poe Leo X said "Truth cannot contradict truth." Truth that is manufactured to approve the desire of those who wish to rebel against the laws of God can never be THE truth. No matter how many laws Congress may pass, no matter how many judges may legislate from the bench, it is the Truth of God that will stand, and the nation that embraces His Truth will long endure. It has become clear that we are in a struggle for the soul of our nation, which in many ways has become disconnected from The Truth. Since the November elections, we have been afforded the opportunity to reclaim our country from years of progressively invented "truth", and have a final chance to arrest our slide into moral relativism. Though we are suffering the cultural cataclysm of the manufactured truth of man, the Truth of God can yet prevail.

So what is the Truth of God? Jesus addressed this in John's Gospel. In John 17:17,  He said "Sanctify them through thy truth: Thy Word is TRUTH", and in John 14:6 He revealed "I am the way, the TRUTH, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."  Here we see the Truth of God defined by the only man qualified to define it: Jesus, the Truth Himself. He states without qualification that scripture, the Word printed in the Bible, is THE TRUTH. In order to know the truth about any political or societal issue, they must be evaluated through the lens of the Word of God, not the reverse. Whatever the Bible says, both New and Old Testaments, is the truth about abortion, homosexuality, trans-genderism, illegal immigration, taxes, and all other issues facing our society.

George Washington said "Truth will ultimately prevail where there is pains taken to bring it to light." As believers continue to hold fast to the Word of God and declare it to be THE truth, the  light will shine in the darkness. The invented truths of men will then be exposed as lies, as John 1:5 declares "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it." Let us continue to speak the truth, and trust God to restore our nation to His Truth. God's Word convinces me Absolutely that we will have Absolute Victory in restoring our country to the Absolute Truth!

Panama City Beach #5 in Nation

TripAdvisor released a lineup of the top beaches in the country giving Panama City Beach the number five spot on the list.

"We're known as the world's most beautiful beaches for a reason," said Dan Rowe, Executive Director for the Bay County Tourist Development Council.

Beaches on the list are selected based on review submitted by tourists.

"It's a testament to what a great destination we have," said Rowe.

With Pier Park nearby providing options for shopping and dining, some may say the beach is a preferred destination.
